Where does the name Itasca come from?
In 1832, explorers named the headwaters of the Mississippi River Itasca, a name long tied to the phrase true source because this is where the great river begins. From that northern Minnesota lake to the Gulf, the name has traveled with people who work and play outside. Hunters, hikers, backpackers, skiers, and families still look for the same thing: boots that feel right on day one and stay trustworthy after hard use.
The Mississippi begins at Lake Itasca, and our Roseville team still thinks in terms of real Minnesota seasons. Deep winter cold, wet spring trails, summer hikes, and crisp fall mornings all ask different things of a boot. Styles such as the Amazon, Swampwalker, and Bushmaster have crossed North American woods, fields, and shorelines for years. Cold streams, leafy switchbacks, duck season, ice fishing, and heavy snow are all part of the brief we design around. When conditions shift, we still want you to reach for Itasca first.
